The days of the incandescent lamp are numbered: it has to go because it turns only five percent of the electricity it consumes into light; 95 percent dissipates as heat. The withdrawal from incandescent lamp technology is scheduled to take place in four stages. It starts on 1 September 2009 and ends for inefficient halogen lamps in 2016.
Despite the phase-out, the lights will not go out in private homes. There are already numerous alternatives on the market. New energy-efficient replacement lamps will follow.

Around 2.3 million accidents, nearly 340,000 persons injured, 5,000 deaths – German accident statistics in 2007 make depressing reading. In many cases, road accidents are due to lack of light power or disturbing glare caused by "bad" automotive lamps.
To make the roads a safer place, licht.de has teamed up with the initiative "Sicheres Autolicht" – Safe Automotive Lighting – to provide information about quality automotive lighting and hazards caused by poor vehicle lamps.
