Saving energy: Daylight-dependent regulation

"Intelligent" lighting management harnesses incident daylight: artificial lighting is only activated or gradually and steplessly raised when daylight alone is not enough. If sufficient daylight is available, the lighting may even be deactivated altogether. Daylight-dependent regulation thus offers the highest degree of comfort and the greatest savings potential.

Daylight varies according to the time of day, time of year, state of the weather and geographical location. Because of these fluctuations, artificial lighting is often required even during the day – but there is no need to operate the lighting at full capacity at all times. Artificial lighting can be regulated according to the level of incident daylight, which ensures a constant lighting level (constant light regulation) even in the deepest parts of the room.

Constant light

The components of a constant light regulation system include dimmable electronic ballasts and signal amplifiers with light sensors, to which luminaires or groups of luminaires (based on room zones) are assigned. The amount of light that is currently in the room – the illuminance – is registered by one or more light sensors and the lighting is automatically regulated to produce the pre-defined lighting level.
