Presence-dependent regulation
Lighting is often left on for lengthy periods even when there is no one in the room. – e.g. during lunch breaks in an office. Motion detectors are the answer here: they ensure that lighting is on only when it is needed – and thus save a considerable amount of energy and money.
Motion detectors regulate lighting by presence control. They deactivate lighting after a pre defined period of no movement and re-activate it when a person enters the room.
Motion detectors in outdoor lighting
Motion detectors are also used in outdoor lighting. Along paths, at building entrances or in parking lots, they provide additional light when it is needed. Integrated photoelectric lighting controllers ensure that motion detectors operate only when it is dark.
Useful to know: Fluorescent lamps or compact fluorescent lamps that are combined with motion detectors require a higher switch resistance, so they need to be operated by electronic ballasts (EBs).
