Shop window lighting
Light acts as a signal. Bright shop windows arouse interest. Lighting options range from planar illumination of a representative cross-section of products to dramatic accentuation of individual items. "Viewing light" is provided by general lighting "Display light" is created by accent lighting. "Decorative light" draws on a wide variety of tools, including coloured light, moving beams and coursing light dots.
Spots are the main lighting tool for showcases and shop windows: wide-angled for general illumination, narrow-angled for highlighting certain areas, sharply focused for emphasizing details. Spots on power track or wire and rod systems are mobile lighting solutions which can be adapted to suit different displays. "Viewing light" is also provided by stray illumination from accent lighting. Full general lighting can be obtained with wide-angled spots and recessed ceiling luminaires.
One important thing to remember is that shop window lighting also needs to be on during the day to ensure that displays do not look dark in bright daylight. This also prevents disturbing reflections on the window pane.
