Lighting design in practice

Careful analysis and professional lighting design are fundamental to the creation of optimum lighting installations combining maximum quality with energy efficiency. Good project preparation costs money but quickly pays off. Precise definition of objectives and priorities at the outset yields measurable dividends later in terms of a higher quality of lighting as well as cost economies.

Complex lighting projects call for specialist expertise: the design needs to comply with European and national standards and regulations and a whole range of lighting parameters need to be considered. Lighting designers know which lighting solutions pave the way to success.

Lighting design is a four-stage operation. The individual steps are:

  • definition of the lighting concept and identification of the types of lighting required
  • definition of the lighting management system
  • definition of components – luminaires, lamps, operating devices – to maximise every product's contribution to lighting quality and energy efficiency
  • definition of the maintenance plan.
