Entrance lighting
Good lighting for front doors and entrances provides security. It guards against hazards which might cause us to stumble and helps residents, visitors and their intentions to be quickly identified. What's more, decorative entrance lighting makes a guest feel welcome.
Where no front door lighting is provided, visitors stand in semi-darkness and make out their host only as a silhouette, backlit by the hall lighting. Another important function performed by front door lighting is as an orientation aid: house numbers, for example, are identifiable at night only if they are illuminated.
