Halogen metal halide lamps
Halogen metal halide lamps are a further development of the high pressure mercury vapour lamp. Owing to the addition of various metal halide compounds, all performance characteristics have improved: halogen metal halide lamps have high luminous efficacy and good colour rendering properties.
Halogen metal halide lamps with reflector
Halogen metal halide lamps with reflector come in rating classes up to 150 W, with E27 screw base, with plug-in base, for open or enclosed luminaires and with beam spreads between 10 and 75 degrees.
They require igniters and ballasts for the relevant type; all halogen metal halide lamps with reflector can be operated by EBs. The advantage: better colour constancy, no light flicker. There is no need for an additional igniter; gentle ignition by the EB prolongs the life of the lamp. Dimmer control of these lamps is not possible.
Characteristics:
| Power consumption(Watts) | 35 - 150 |
| Luminous flux (lumens) | 2.000 - 11.000 |
| Luminous efficacy (lumens/Watts) | 57 - 73 |
| Light colour | warm white |
| Colour rendering index Ra | < 95 |
| Base | E27 |
Halogen metal halide lamps without reflector
Halogen metal halide lamps without reflector are available with ellipsoid bulb, as tube-shaped models and in double-ended designs. Those of high watt ratings are particularly suitable for floodlighting, sports facility lighting and use in high industrial bays. Low-power halogen metal halide lamps with transparent ceramic burner are characterised by improved colour quality. They have very good colour rendering properties and maintain a constant light colour throughout their life. Applications include salesroom and shop window lighting.

Dimmer control of halogen metal halide lamps requires complex technology and can affect light colour. Dimmable EBs have now been developed for some lamp types.
