Special-purpose lamps
Regulation 244/2009 "Ecodesign requirements for non-directional household lamps" does not apply to special-purpose lamps such as those used in ovens or refrigerators. These lamps will not be removed from the market even at a later date, although their intended use will need to be indicated on the packaging.
Airport lighting lamps
Airport lighting lamps, also known as airfield lamps, are special-purpose lamps designed to deliver light within the colour coordinates defined for white light by the International Civil Aviation Organisation ICAO. They are used in special luminaires for lighting and marking runways and areas of the apron.
Airport lighting lamps are low voltage halogen lamps which, unlike ordinary LV halogen lamps, are current-controlled. This enables them to be operated in series; the current regulated is the circulating current. As this is the same at all points, all lamps are supplied with the same current. This is the only operating mode possible for the lengths of cable required for runways and taxiways.
