International Lighting Vocabulary (ILV) sets international standard
The 2nd edition of the International Lighting Vocabulary (ILV) of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) offers 1.347 definitions on 248 pages. The vocabulary aims to promote an international standardization in the use of quantities, units, symbols, and terminology related to the science and art of light and lighting, color and vision, metrology of optical radiation over the ultraviolet, visible and infrared region as well as photobiology, photochemistry, and image technology. The vocabulary provides concise definitions and necessary information important for the understanding and correct usage of terms. Detailed information is available in the Technical Reports and International Standards produced by the CIE.
Photometrical and electrotechnical vocabulary harmonized
The first ILV edition was published in 1938 and until 2011 in that form. In 2015, discrepancies had to be solved and the whole work harmonized with chapter “Lighting“ of the “International Electrotechnical Vocabulary“(IEC). The vocabulary is the result of intensive work carried out by diverse expert groups and committees. The second edition of the IEC will be published with identical content.
The ILV is available from the CIE web shop or National Committees of the CIE. Definitions of terms are also available online at CIE e-ILV.
