Emission layer made of special glass enhances efficiency and stability

Researchers of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Technische Universität Dresden were able to improve the efficiency of OLED by means of ultra-stable glass. The growth conditions of these glasses yield the thermodynamically most stabile amorphous solid forms. In their study the scientists demonstrate that in this way efficiency and operational stability of four different phosphorescent emitters are increased: on average about 15 percent for both parameters and all materials.

The trick: This approach doesn´t afford an advancement of material and no optimization of the architecture of each part like conventional optimization requires. Therefore this concept is promising for the commercial production especially of displays and automotive products.
