Art festival is set to become even more open yet concentrated
The Luminale Light and Culture Festival has a new concept. It has been revamped and will run parallel to the Light + Building event from 18 to 23 March 2018 in Frankfurt and Offenbach. From now on, the festival will address urban policy and social issues in addition to the theme of light, and present innovative solutions for life in urban areas.
"The cities' residents will benefit in the long term from the Luminale because at least one project will be retained in the city after the event," explains Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Messe Frankfurt. "Better City" is one of the five core themes of the Festival: In the "Solutions" category, architects are invited to submit visionary proposals for making city life cleaner, greener, safer and more comfortable. "Art" takes a creative approach to light and the city. "Study" provides a platform for young talents, while citizens and initiatives can contribute to "Community".
As many locations as possible will be concentrated together, making them easier to reach. The project office is Studio Rekkab. The 11-member Luminale council, of which licht.de CEO Dr. Jürgen Waldorf is also a member, supports the team with its expertise and network. Messe Frankfurt is funding the project office and general communication. Luminale 2016 included roughly 200 light shows and attracted around 200,000 visitors.
