Financial support from the EU for the pan-european digital innovation center for photonics
Photon Hub Europe is the new pan-european innovation center for photonics. It has been awarded 19 Million Euro investment from the EU´s HORIZON 2020 program. The hub´s intention is to support small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe become highly competitive digital companies by means of faster and smarter deployment of photonic-based technologies. This is expected to create more than 1.000 high-tech jobs and nearly one billion Euro in revenue and venture capital by 2025.
Innovation as a one-stop-shop solution
The new innovation hub intends to integrate all of the best-in-class photonic technologies, facilities, expertise and experience of 53 top competence centers across Europe under one roof as a one-stop-shop solution. German partners are the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the Leibniz-Institut für Photonische Technologie, the Laser Zentrum Hannover and Optec-Berlin-Brandenburg. Three Fraunhofer Institutes are also on board: the Institute for Telecommunications/Heinrich Hertz Institut (HHI), the Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) and the Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology (FEP).
