Federal Ecodesign Award 2022

Competition for outstanding ecological design launched across Europe

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Environment Agency, together with the International Design Centre Berlin (IDZ), are launching a Europe-wide competition for the Federal Ecodesign Award. The competition is looking for creative design ideas and projects that meet highest ecological standards.

Designing climate protection
The competition intends to raise public awareness of the fact that products, services and systems should have the least possible impact on the environment, up to 80 percent of which is caused by design. In this way, resources and greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced. The Federal Ecodesign Prize has been awarded since 2012. Time and again, lighting products have been among the winners – right at the beginning, for example, LED lamps, which were still new at that time, and later also LED spotlights for illuminating showcases.

Companies of all sizes and from all sectors, designers and students are called upon to submit their projects until 18 April 2022. The state award for ecological design will be presented in four categories: product, service, concept and young talent. On 5 December 2022, the winners will be publicly announced and honoured at a festive award ceremony at the Federal Ministry for the Environment.
