Germany's most beautiful light events

From the coast to the foothills of the Alps – a light journey through the regions

Throughout the year, especially from the second half of the year, buildings, streets or even entire ensembles are illuminated in many places in Germany. The wide range of light art, illuminations and video mapping fascinates and inspires to travel. Light art is the term used when artificial light sources are used for aesthetic purposes and three-dimensional works are created, for example. Illumination is when artificial or natural light is used to create decorative or artistic lighting effects. In video mapping, a projector casts light images onto facades. Today, there is a wide variety of light events – from traditional light festivals to large-scale events.

Karlsruhe
The Karlsruhe Schlosslichtspiele will be held for the ninth time. Starting on August 16, 2023, the view of the castle will be transformed under the solgan: "Horizons of Hope. Dawn of Devices." "From astronomy to medicine, from bacteriology to biology, from chemistry to physics, it is the tools that open up new horizons for us and improve the quality of life for people on the planet," said the recently deceased curator Peter Weibel about his last project with six different light shows.

Trier
This year, on September 29 and 30, 2023, the Illuminale light art festival in Trier will have the claim: "Light in the darkness." As darkness falls, visitors around the cathedral will be immersed in the city's history. The themes of sustainability and energy scarcity will also play a central role. The atmospheric lighting projects are illuminated by energy-efficient LED light sources.

From October 6 to 15, 2023, under the motto: "Colours of Life", Berlin's most famous landmarks will be illuminated, radiant, colourful and artistically immersed in colourful visual worlds.
