Touch the Light

Spacious laser installations by Margareta Hesse in Unna

The Centre for International Light Art in Unna is showing the special exhibition "Touch the Light" with laser works by Margareta Hesse. The Berlin-based artist has been developing expansive installations of laser light since 2008. Fine mist and red lines of light permeate the cellar vaults of the former Linden Brewery. The glowing laser lines of the installation "Lichtfalle" appear like knee-high hurdles and invite visitors to explore them, walk through them or climb over them.

Waves and will-o'-the-wisps
In the "Light Wave", the light levels rise slowly, similar to a water wave. They pile up high and let the visitors dive into the installation. In contrast, the work "Irrlichter" is wild and uncontrolled: Here, the strict pattern of fixed lines is broken up. Without any recognisable order, swarms of robots equipped with lasers travel across the floor, evoking the appearance of danger and a variety of associations. The exhibition is on view until September, 17.
